Craft Review: Lauren Aston Designs Knitted Colour Pop Hats

Afternoon all :) how are you!?

Another year….another craft review! I’m determined to keep trying new crafts into 2021, but also trying to improve my existing crafting skills. One of my faves (you may have guessed) is knitting. Specifically chunky knitting! My favourite knitter to follow on Instagram is Lauren Aston Designs. Her LAD knitting patterns have been so much fun to try and master and I love giving new ones a whirl.

My first order was of Lauren’s Mini Stockings - these are so wonderful. I made these into a garland but also as individual stockings for personalised Christmas tree decorations and they made such adorable Christmas gifts. My nieces in particular loved their pink versions.

My second was the knitted Christmas trees which are standalone handmade Christmas decorations. A bit more advanced and used 4 double ended knitting needles(!) but were a fun challenge! Mine ended up a bit wobbly but that’s how I wanted them to be ;)

My next Lauren Aston Designs knitting pattern is….the colour pop hat! I am someone who is always found in a dressing gown and who resides in a freezer of a house, so this felt like the perfect project to see me through the 2021 winter months.

As with all of Lauren’s patterns, the instructions are really easy to follow and come as a downloadable PDF. Plus, on the Lauren Aston Designs website there are lots of “how to” blog posts to follow on different knitting stitches (super helpful).

The pattern features two contrasting colours - for my first hat, I chose mustard yellow and navy blue. Since then, I have experimented with some lovely pixie blues, minky pinks and creams. The pattern uses circular knitting needles, which I have come to love and cherish, and all you need to know is how to do moss stitch (knit one, purl one). Also, no seams, the hat just zips up together at the end!

Can’t wait to start my next one…these are either going to be gifts or I will sell them and proceeds will go to Sue Ryder (so message me if one tickles your fancy).

Now….what to knit next!?
